When I start up certain programs, my Slick2D GameState update() function suddenly gets called alot more.
The programs I have noticed this behaviour with are Steam and certain screen recording software, but there are alot more.
Without Steam: 65 times a second.
With Steam: 1000 times a second.
When I stop these programs, the rate goes down again.
This isn't a one time thing. I have rebooted several times and it still happens.

Any idea why?

BTW: Windows 7 64 bit, Java:
java version "1.7.0_09"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.5-b02, mixed mode)

I run Steam A LOT, especially while programming/testing my game. I've never seen this before. Maybe you can set the FPS to 60 and see if that fixes it.

This sounds very similar to this:-

I believe that certain applications are causing OS level acceleration for certain functionality. I'd imagine this only affects the Window OS.

SetTargetFps fixes the problem, thanks.

Its still weird tho, and it should probably get checked out and/or documented.
