Hey everyone

This is my first post so I guess introductions are in order before I begin my actual post. I am a Belgian student in my second year of college, studying IT. I also like to do some game programming as a hobby.

Looking at things like Game Maker, Stencyl and JME I was wondering if a custom Slick IDE with integrated modules would be something that people want to use.

I'm thinking of building it with the netbeans platform and, beside making a code snippet repository and game framework using the code on the wiki, maybe an integrated tilemap editor if I get that far.

If anyone's interested, post something and I'll get started. Also, don't hesitate to tell me what you'd like to see.

Here on slick forum we have a bottom up approach, writing code and then test, so I like idea of a sort of Slick IDE and I think top three feature could be:

- game preview integrated into ide,
- game map editor integrated into ide (aquaria anyone?)
- advanced visual debuggin tool, not only code

my 2 cents :D

Have you considired Eclipse based? Most of us use Eclipse over Netbeans.
One cool tool would be integrated custom profiler.

The Netbeans platform is actually really easy to work with. I prefer Netbeans to Eclipse so I'm probably biased, so I'll take a look at Eclipse's framework before I decide. Netbeans has many great features though, so I'm probably going to go with that.

A custom map editor was something I'm certainly planning on doing. I'm hoping I can do something with Tiled maps.

A custom profiling thing seems really hard to code so, unless I can find some help with that, I don't think that's going to be in it soon. Probably the same for a visual debugging tool because I don't even know what that is.

I'm going to start with an integrated resource loader and maybe an entity framework based off the component-based entity tutorial from the wiki. One of the reasons I want to use Netbeans is because it has a Wizard creator which could be handy for automating the creation of entities.

I'm going to make this Open Source, though, and I'm hoping everyone will contribute code snippets and the like so we can get more people to use Slick (and my app ;) )

This sounds awesome!

I'd also say I prefer Eclipse and I've used both!

Anyways you should make a github repo or something so people can join in and help improving it together!

90% of people here use eclipse.so eclipse would be a better choice.I'm waiting to get my hands on a slick ide.

If I may, if an IDE will be made specifically for Slick2D, I would greatly appreciate android support, and this is best found in eclipse. However, I am not going to make the IDE, so I cannot dictate what platform it runs on, especially if netbeans is easier.
