Hi everyone,

I'm fairly new to Java and Slick, but am in the process of developing a 2-4player game. It's not your typical Board Game, but its in the style of backgammon, checkers, etc.

One of the key issues I have is that I want to play it with a mate of mine online. Ultimately I'd like like to have a situation where players can join in a game "about to start in 30 seconds" and when 4 players have joined the game it starts.

I have no idea where to start with the online side of this. Can anyone point me in the general direction please?

Kind regards,

Tinx

I'm guessing I need something like Marauroa, but could do with a step by step guide. Can anyone help?

it's a BIG topic: if you want already developed service, google is your hero here.

For a service build from scratch my suggestion is to have server/client architecture build with Kryonet and put it on online server

If you do not want to learn Server/Client architecture or implementation you could
use PircBot which listens and writes to IRC servers.
Would allow a multiuser environment with a lobby system, as long the IRC server plays along (not banning you for spamming etc).

In any case worth a look!
