I think we can remove the tags directory because it's a remainder from the old SVN repository (just like the trunk directory which is no longer required but which we can't get rid of that easily).

Opinions? Reasons against it that I overlooked?

I only want to mention the disadvantage of the current tag dir, when you clone the repsitory in Eclipse http://slick.javaunlimited.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4637.

Also the trunk directory can be easily deleted and everything in it can be raised into the root directory.

Hopefully mercurial is able to perform a rename operation that drags folders around without messing up the history of the files inside it. But I am not sure about this one. I usually use Git and not Mercurial.

Just saying while we are at it...

Mercurial can do renames without issues. The question is which diff format you use.
