RFE: Isometric support for TileD

Post subject:  RFE: Isometric support for TileD

Lately I want to develop some isometric game, using great map editor but when I want to use map in Slick I get error that isometric is not supported. Ok, u made normal map support, but it would be great to also support other types of maps. There is no other engine written in java available to have isometric support.

Writting my own engine or support for slick is too much time consuming for me. I would also need to much learning how slick works. You guys already know about the code and writting this support can't be such a big deal.

This one I've made with slick...
I'll try to clean it up and port it completely to slick :)

As you can see on the picture, it's 1:2 isometric perspective.
It'd be nice if it'd support any isometric perspective ;)
So there is a little code required for it.

edit: As I can see, Tiled has a new release since Nov,2009. I'll port my code to it's current implementation.

edit2: I just glanced at tiled qt 0.4 and am amazed! It nicely supports objects on a isomap.
I'll redo my workarounds on my code, so they don't depend on my changes to previous java version of Tiled.
That was, what I was waiting for ;)

What I mostly need is:
- being able to make map in tiled (so I don't need to write my own editor and find hot water and reinventing the wheel again. (I can do this)
- able to save map in tile to XML (this is also done)
- load this XML in slick into 3D array (one index is for layers) of numbers, where each numbers hold a code (or strings) which represents specific graphic tile already lodaded in game. (this bothers me most)

After that my job will be only to draw all layers on screen.
I need this layer data to know where on map will be obstacles and character won't be able to move and to check some other things about game behaviour.

I've just added support for the TileMap Class (the same one for ortho maps) in my Slick Source, if you're still interested in this.

I'm cleaning it a bit and trying to figure out how to use the same functionality from renderLine as Ortho maps have in slick, and I'll post it to KevGlass.

Currently, it reads a full isometric map from Tiled the same way a ortho map is read, no extra work is done and the class TiledMap is the same (inside it sorts out wich type of map to render).

Hi, I'm really interested because we are starting to develop a city game (something like sim city) and we would like to be able to upload isometric maps with this class for use with slick. If you could send me the code I'll apreciate it!

Oh... so that's why it was never posted.

I've moved to hex maps so I forgot all about isometric tiles, I have the code but its 3x slower than regular maps (because of the way tiles are called).

I can update it soon (after I finish another sprint for my game) for better performance, but I'll send you the code again anyway.

I'll also send you the code mtm.

Btw. kevglass I can give you test isometric map if you like to. But for now my test maps are very simple.
