so, I have a new video card (the one that came with this PC was crap)

however, all slick programs are bugging out with this:

Did you install the ATI drivers? Or are you using the MS drivers?
The MS drivers don't really support OpenGL (at least that's what Google says...).

I did install the ATI drivers, but I did notice that Wurm Online crashed because it was using a "Microsoft GDI Driver" or something like that

not sure how to make ATI primary? it seems the Aero desktop can find it easy enough to run the UI

Are you using Vista? GDI is the MS software driver IIRC.

Have you tried any openGL demos? What about any ATI demos that came with the card?

yea, i'm using vista

I ran some ATI demos that were installed with the drivers (which looks amazing, btw)

I haven't ran any OpenGL demos, but I will when I get back from work

I was beginning to think the Aero thing was hogging the power, but that should mean that the ATI demos wouldn't work either

plus, when I had an nvidia card installed before this one, the slick games worked perfectly

Does sound like a driver bug - but could be a 16bit only thing or something I guess. Next time you're online give us a ping and we can try and work if out if you like.

thanks guys, I got the graphics to work. it was a driver bug, where vista was hogging the entire graphics card for aeroglass rendering

I now have this issue with build 183, which I hadn't with the build I used previously. Here is the stack trace:
Code:

Any idea of the root cause?

The issue doesn't exist in full screen mode. Here is the log:
Code:
Sat Nov 03 15:42:20 EDT 2007 INFO:Slick Build #183
Sat Nov 03 15:42:20 EDT 2007 INFO:LWJGL Version: 1.1
Sat Nov 03 15:42:20 EDT 2007 INFO:OriginalDisplayMode: 1400 x 1050 x 16 @60Hz
Sat Nov 03 15:42:20 EDT 2007 INFO:TargetDisplayMode: 1024 x 768 x 32 @75Hz
Sat Nov 03 15:42:22 EDT 2007 INFO:Starting display 1024x768
Sat Nov 03 15:42:22 EDT 2007 INFO:Found 0 controllers
random piece: yellow01.mediumI

Also, you can see that in window mode the frequency is not found either (see my previous reply).

Yes it does. This is not a blocker for me. It's just a bug that I report and it can be fixed later if necessary.

It's when the start up code tries to get alpha in the framebuffer support, if it fails it goes back to default configuration. The exception is useful for debugging.

And what is that default config? What is important is that Slick switches to the requested display mode with the bit depth that matches the OS's config if running in window mode. Can you confirm me that's the case in the issue I described?

Thanks

No, at the moment the highest frequency that is valid is chosen.

Is it the same for the bit depth?
