The only class available in Slick-Util to load fonts is TrueTypeFont and this class is marked as depreciated. There is no other alternative in the package for fonts.

Agreed, it'd be great if the improved font support was added to Slick-Util.

Also, could there be a way to access the texture a font is using? I'm trying to toggle the scale filter for some text, and I can't manage to change the GL setting as is.

Just to clarify Slick-Util isn't a separate project from Slick2D, its just a subset, so the features you ask for (i.e. Bitmap Fonts, Unicode Fonts) can already be accessed directly and used by LWJGL from the Slick2D jars files.

You can just create you own slick-util jar (with whatever you need from Slick2D) by just grabbing the Slick2D jar and removing the stuff you don't need. Remember Slick2D is a library not an engine for LWJGL.

That's basically what I ended up doing.
